What else can you see at the Great Guild Hall?
POWER OF THE ELITE. STORY OF THE GREAT GUILD
In the basement rooms, visitors can learn about the history of the Great Guild and the building itself. From 1437 or even earlier, right up to the Second World War, a wine cellar called
Das Süsse Loch (sweet burrow) was housed in this basement and the exhibition contains some references. The visitors can also view the walls of the earlier building and mediaeval wells unearthed during the archaeological excavations in 2010, and several finds connected with the wine cellar.
STRIKING IT RICH?! MONEY IN ESTONIA THROUGH THE AGES
The former excise chamber of the Great Guild Hall is the venue of the exhibition showing various means of payment used in Estonia through history. The visitors can see the best items from one of the richest Estonian History Museum collections – the numismatic collection. The adjacent small treasury is for temporary exhibitions of especially valuable and rare items.
ARMOURY ROOM. WARS THROUGH ESTONIA’S HISTORY
Estonia has survived six major wars. The museum’s Arms chamber is dedicated to the history of warfare and armaments. The Estonian History Museum’s collection of weapons is the largest in Estonia.
THE OUTDOOR EXHIBITION
„The Path of History” in Börsi passage provides a quick overview of the history of Estonia. The courtyard offers enjoyable activities primarily for younger visitors “during summer period”.
